You already know that magic mushrooms do produce an intense psychoactive effect, but what if you don’t like their taste?

Is this the end of the road for you? Not at all! Say hello to Mushroom Tea!

Interestingly, humans have been using mushroom drinks in spiritual journeys for over 8,000 years.

So, how do you make it? Easily!

What is Magic Mushroom Tea?

Since psilocybin mushrooms are often available in dried form, adding them to the boiling water transfers the main psychoactive compounds, psilocybin and psilocin, into the water.

Combine this with our bodies’ ability to absorb liquids much quicker. Effects are experienced much faster. However, the best part is that it reduces the chances of nausea and vomiting.

How to Choose the Right Mushroom for Tea?

Presently, there are over a hundred species of magic mushrooms that contain psychoactive compounds, such as psilocybin and psilocin. You can explore all of them on your own. For now, we recommend you try Mazatepec, Mexicana, and Mc Kennaii separately, though!

How to Make Mushroom Tea?

Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to brew this magical drink to perfection in approximately 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 decaffeinated tea bags (avoid regular ones because caffeine can mess with your trip)
  • Sugar or Honey as per taste
  • Ginger slices
  • Magic Mushroom

Equipment

  • Pot or Kettle
  • Coffee filter or sieve
  • Grinder (knife will work as well)

Recipe

  • Step 1: Grind your magic mushroom. You can also use a knife to chop them into tiny pieces.
  • Step 2: Add water to the pot or kettle and bring it to a boil. Remove from heat and wait for a couple of minutes to let it cool down a little. Heat destroys psilocybin compounds, so be careful.
  • Step 3: Add the decaffeinated tea bags, ginger, and mushroom bits to the pot and let them steep for 15 minutes.
  • Step 4: After 15 minutes, strain the drink using a coffee filter or a sieve. Finally, add some honey or sugar and sip away!

How to Choose a Dose?

It is really difficult to choose a dose for this beverage because there are a lot of factors that can vary from person to person, such as metabolism and previous exposure.

Please note that it is easy to overdose on mushroom tea. So, to be safe, start with small doses like 1 to 2 grams.

However, if you already have experience with dried mushrooms, add the same amount into one cup you consumed last time.

What to Expect After Consuming Mushroom Tea?

After consuming this tea, you can expect to feel effects on your body and mind similar to LSD.

Once you begin to feel the effects, colors will pop out more, and you experience sounds more deeply. Your mind will begin to drift away in thoughts. People have also reported increased creativity, euphoria, and happy feelings.

Protip: Don’t stare in the mirror for too long.

How Does it Work?

Psilocybin produces the desired effects by activating serotonin receptors primarily in the prefrontal cortex.

This part of the brain controls mood, cognition, and perception. Interestingly, distorted vision is not always a result.

How Long Does it Take to Notice the Effects?

Yes, the mentioned compounds, psilocybin and psilocin, pass quicker through the digestive tract than eating the mushrooms; however, you’d still have to wait anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes before you start feeling the effects.

How Long Does the Effects Last?

Once you start to experience the effects, set a reminder because these can last up to 6 hours. So, cancel all the plans unless you want to go on an adventure.

Benefits of Magic Mushroom Tea

Other than the sought-after “trip,” magic mushrooms also offer health benefits that shouldn’t be overlooked. With controlled doses and intervals, this can help with conditions like:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Alcohol Dependence

Negatives (Negative Trip) of Magic Mushroom Tea

There is a slight chance that you can experience what is known as a “negative trip,” a nightmare that you cannot control or wake up from for 6 hours. So just be safe. To understand the negatives better, click here.

Please note that a negative trip is often triggered by the environment or the mindset of a person. So, it is advised you do it in nature with safety and have people you trust around you.

Health Risks of Magic Mushroom Tea

Sadly, there are some of the negative effects that you can experience. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, people can continue to experience flashbacks anywhere from weeks to years after using the hallucinogen. This is a condition called hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder and is rare. Additionally, one can also experience:

  • Panic Attack
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Nausea
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Mushroom Poisoning (consuming the wrong mushroom)

Tolerance and Overdose

Unlike other drugs, tolerance against this substance builds up quickly. This can lead to people adding more mushrooms and getting their brains fried. Thankfully, mushroom overdose is not lethal.

Even though it is not fatal, people can experience things like:

  • Seizures
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle weakness
  • Paranoia or panic
  • Agitation
  • Psychosis

If you feel like you are experiencing any of these, seek medical attention.

Psychological Dependence and Withdrawal

Although psilocybin is not addictive, some people may end up relying on it, given the benefits. Moreover, since a lot of people ingest it with spirituality in mind, it can cause them to think that they must consume this beverage to ascend or achieve enlightenment.

Sadly, this leads to dependency, and once they have to stop drinking this tea, psychological effects like severe depression and fatigue kick in.

The Bottom Line

If you’ve already set your mind to drinking this tea, we’ll say go for it. Just experience it once with precautions and let it be there.

So, who wants some tea?
